Work-Focused Support

Bridge the Gap Between Recovery and Work Demands.

Returning to a physically demanding job can require more than regaining comfortable movement. Work-focused rehabilitation considers the strength, endurance, movement patterns, and task demands involved in your work.

Work conditioning emphasizes physical capacity and activity tolerance. Work hardening uses a broader, coordinated approach that may involve additional disciplines and job-related tasks. The recommended approach depends on your evaluation, referral, work demands, and available services. Contact our team to discuss the program appropriate for your case.

Your Questions, Answered

Good to Know

How do work conditioning and work hardening differ?

Work conditioning focuses on physical capacity. Work hardening is broader and may involve a coordinated team addressing additional work-related needs. The approach should match your referral and individual situation.

Will my program reflect my job duties?

Job information helps identify relevant movement and physical demands. Share an essential duties list, job description, and any medical restrictions.

Is this the same as a Functional Capacity Evaluation?

No. An FCE assesses abilities at a point in time. Work conditioning or work hardening is a rehabilitation approach intended to develop function.

Does participation guarantee a return-to-work date?

No. Progress and timing vary. Work status and restrictions should be discussed with the provider managing your injury.

Patient education: American Society of Hand Therapists: Work Rehabilitation. Your evaluation and referral guide the approach appropriate to your needs.
