Understand Your Care

What Is Balance & Coordination Training?

Balance depends on information from your eyes, inner ears, joints, and muscles, together with the strength and reactions needed to stay upright. Coordination training addresses how smoothly your body organizes movement. Your evaluation helps identify which challenges are most relevant, rather than assuming that every balance problem has the same cause.

Your therapist connects this approach to the findings from your evaluation and the goals you choose together. We discuss what a useful response would look like and whether this treatment belongs in your plan.

Potential Patient Benefits

How It May Help You

01

Improve Standing Control

Practice managing weight shifts and maintaining stability with an appropriate base of support.

02

Handle Moving Tasks

Work on turning, reaching, stepping, and combining movements that are challenging in daily life.

03

Build Confidence Gradually

Use supervision and support to practice difficult tasks without immediately attempting them alone.

Your Visit

What to Expect

We discuss falls, near falls, dizziness, footwear, and the situations where you feel unsteady. Testing is adapted for your safety.

Training may progress from supported weight shifts to controlled turns, obstacle negotiation, or coordinated steps. Difficulty changes only when your performance supports it.

We check how treatment affects both your symptoms and a relevant movement or activity. Your feedback helps guide the next step, including changing the approach when it is not useful.

Between Appointments

Carry Progress Home

Use the support and setup recommended by your therapist. Clear the practice area and avoid eyes-closed or unstable-surface challenges without an individually approved plan.

Let us know how you feel later in the day and during your normal routine. A treatment that feels comfortable in the clinic should also fit into a manageable recovery plan at home.

Individualized Decisions

When We Adapt Your Care

New sudden dizziness, weakness, fainting, or neurological changes need medical assessment. Balance therapy can support function but does not replace evaluation of medication, vision, or inner-ear concerns.

Share your medical history, medications, recent procedures, and any change in symptoms. We can discuss alternatives when a technique is not suitable for you.

Questions About Balance & Coordination Training

Know What to Expect

Can balance improve even if I have been unsteady for a while?

Many people can improve specific movement skills with appropriate practice. Progress depends on the contributing conditions, consistent training, and management of other fall-risk factors.

How will this fit with my other treatments?

Your therapist selects complementary approaches around the limitations found during your evaluation. This treatment may be paired with exercise, movement practice, or education when those approaches support your goals.

How many sessions will I need?

The schedule depends on your condition, healing stage, progress, and relevant authorization. We reassess your response rather than promising a fixed number of treatments or a guaranteed outcome.
