Feel Prepared.
Feel Supported.

Your guide to getting started at Greenbelt Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine—from your first conversation to the next steps in your recovery.

A Welcoming First Step

Start With Your Story.

Your first appointment is a chance to tell us what happened, how you feel, and what you want to get back to. Whether your goal is a more comfortable workday, easier movement at home, or returning to a favorite activity, your priorities guide the conversation.

Call our office before your visit to discuss scheduling, your referral, and any insurance or claim requirements. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment.

Your First-Visit Checklist

A Little Preparation Helps.

Documents & Details

  • Photo identification and insurance information
  • A referral or prescription, if applicable
  • Claim number, adjuster contact, and treatment authorization, when relevant
  • Your current medication list and relevant medical instructions
  • Available reports or records your referring provider has asked you to bring

Clothing & Comfort

Wear comfortable clothes that let you move and allow access to the area being evaluated. Choose footwear appropriate for walking and movement.

If you use a brace, cane, walker, or another prescribed device, bring it along with the instructions you have been given. Let us know in advance if you need help preparing for your visit.

After Surgery or an Injury

Bring your surgeon’s protocol, discharge instructions, and any restrictions on movement, lifting, or weight bearing. Share changes in your medical condition or instructions before treatment.

Write down the activities that have become difficult and the questions you want to discuss. Specific examples help us understand how the injury affects your life.

Care Built Around You

Understand Your Treatment Plan.

Your evaluation shapes your care. Your therapist explains the recommended approach and adjusts treatment as your symptoms, abilities, and goals change.

Individualized Treatment

Your plan may include manual therapy, joint mobilization, guided exercise, balance or gait training, functional activities, and education. Treatments are selected for your needs and stage of recovery.

Progress & Visit Planning

Visit frequency and duration depend on your evaluation, goals, medical precautions, progress, and any authorization requirements. Your therapist may reassess movement, strength, and everyday function to help guide the next steps.

There is no single recovery timeline for every patient.

Support Between Visits

Your therapist may provide a home program with instructions on technique and frequency. Ask for clarification if an activity is unclear, and share discomfort, new symptoms, or barriers to following the plan.

Tell us about meaningful changes, such as walking farther, sitting more comfortably, or completing a difficult task.

Before Treatment Begins

Insurance, Referrals & Injury Claims.

Call with your information so we can discuss the arrangements that apply to you. Coverage, authorization, and patient responsibility should be confirmed before treatment; a referral or claim number alone does not guarantee payment.

Insurance & Financial Questions

Have your insurance card and referral available. Ask about benefits, copayments, deductibles, visit limits, and any prior authorization requirements. Your insurer can clarify the terms of your plan; our office can discuss the information needed to schedule care.

Let us know if your coverage or authorization changes.

Motor Vehicle & Pedestrian Injuries

After appropriate medical assessment, we can discuss rehabilitation for accident-related musculoskeletal injuries. Bring relevant medical instructions, claim information, insurer contact details, and your attorney’s information if applicable.

Workers’ Compensation

Have your claim number, adjuster or case manager contact, referral, written authorization if available, and current work restrictions ready. Explain your job’s physical demands so your therapist can consider them in your plan.

Work Injury Rehabilitation ↗

Slip, Fall & Liability-Related Injuries

Care focuses on your diagnosed injuries and functional needs after a fall or other accident. Share medical precautions and relevant claim contacts. Legal responsibility and claim decisions are separate from your rehabilitation plan.

Appointments & Office Policies.

Scheduling & Attendance

Schedule the visits recommended in your plan and let us know about conflicts or barriers. Confirm appointment changes directly with the office. An inquiry through email does not confirm or reserve an appointment.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice when cancelling or rescheduling. Call (301) 477-1987 so we can help you arrange another visit. Ask our team about applicable appointment policies and fees.

Records & Communication

Ask our office how to request records or share documents securely. Appropriate authorization may be needed to communicate with other providers, insurers, case managers, or attorneys.

Use the contact form for general inquiries. Please avoid including sensitive medical or claim details.
